In fall 2003 SerNet started to provide Samba3 packages for SLES8 on behalf of SuSE Linux AG. Customers were redirected to FTP.SerNet.DE where SerNet offers standard packages for SLES8 but also individual packages designed for individual customer's needs.
After SLES9 was published many customers preferred to retrieve Samba3 packages that are built from one repository and that are not feature restricted due to software dependencies. These packages are more recent than those on the Novell FTP Site or Novell's maintenance web - they are the most stable, the most up-to-date and the best-tested packages available publicly.
SerNet's Samba packages can be added as an online installation source since SLES10. You will find a short description how to do this
